![]() Typewriters were always an expensive item and you could rent them rather than buy them back in the 1950s and 60s. I can answer that one straight away and the answer is not a lot! Some typewriters do sell for eye watering amounts but unless they are something like a gold plated Royal owned by some famous writer then the true value of them is often only a few pounds. ![]() A lot of people have an old typewriter and wonder how much it is worth. Nobody likes to buy something and then find out they paid far too much for it and this is very true with typewriters as much as anything else. I currently have a small collection of twenty one typewriters, not that I set out to collect typewriters as I was quiet happy with the one that was bought for me when I was fourteen and needed a better one to do my homework when I was doing a commercial course at a very minor public school. It is just my own observations over the last ten years during which time I have bought and sold more than a few typewriters. This is not intended to be a definative guide to buying a typewriter. There is probably nothing more useless or annoying than an article or a book by somebody who thinks they are some sort of expert on one subject or another and are really just legends in their own minds.
